more » ... onal framework and management mechanisms of metropolitan areas or zones in Mexico and Colombia. First, the legislative foundations that establish the bases for the management of the metropolis will be reviewed. The research report gives an account of the analysis of the legal framework that governs the metropolitan zones or areas, the institutional configurations of the management of said demarcations through diverse government documents, as well as interviews and informal talks with key actors of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara and the metropolitan area of Valle de Aburrá. In the end, it seeks to give clarity to the practical and academic discussions about the specificities of the metropolitan in different forms of national states in Latin America.
