In order to clarify the factors affecting the species diversity of plant communities around an irrigation pond, we surveyed Obaste-oike Irrigation Pond in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The pond is comprised of three subdivided ponds, Kami-ike, Naka-ike, and Shimo-ike. Despite being adjacent to each other and connected by streams, the water levels in the three ponds differ.
