Rhodotorula genus contains 37 species, only three species have been caused human infections. These three species are R. glutinis, R. minuta and R. mucilaginosa. Infection with Rhodotorula is much less common than other yeast causes. Nevertheless, the number of infections has clearly increased during the last few years.
