The results of conducted experiments on categorical perception with respect to gray color categorization into three classes are reported. Namely, the subjects were instructed to categorize shades of gray generated in a random sequence into three classes: light-gray, gray, and dark-gray. The collected data are analyzed employing (i) the asymptotics of the constructed psychometric functions and (ii) the mean decision time in categorizing a given gray brightness.
