When I started this journey towards a PhD degree, I felt that I was taking a road in pitch darkness and I couldn't see where I was going and the destination was not in sight. As I proceeded, I encountered several people who lit up my path and helped me find my way. Now, I would like to take this opportunity to thank these people. First and foremost, I would like to thank Professor Mathews Jacob. I have been very fortunate to have him as my mentor. He gave me a wide range of interesting problems
more » ... to work on. I have always found his door to be open when I needed guidance, and he has calmly and patiently answered all my questions. At times, when my progress was slow, he has been very encouraging and given me hope that I will figure out a way to solve the problems. I have found him to be very enthusiastic about research, and he has shaped my ideas about how to be a good researcher. I believe that through the course of my PhD, my maturity as a researcher has grown tremendously, and I owe this to my advisor.
