The visual arts have taken up the basic feeling of fear with varying degrees of intensity and have interpreted and expressed it very differently. Our brief historical outline aims to demonstrate using concrete examples how the subject of fear has been dealt with over time. We begin by distinguishing whether Images show people in a state of fear or whether they are intended to elicit fear in the viewers. We then reveal the various means that can be used to represent or evoke fear. The
