The environmental monitoring of the Brazilian Pantanal can be aided by using remote sensing techniques and satellite images, like NOAA. This paper describes the automatic processing of AVHRR-NOAA time series images for the monitoring of large wetlands areas in the Pantanal. We could conclude that the flood period is very time variable along the whole plain of Pantanal, and occurs from the west to east and from the north to south. The developed system for image processing and products generation from AVHRR-NOAA data showed to be an important supporting tool, for combining automation and precision in the presented methodology.
