This study aims to analyse the constraints to banana production in Banco (Dioïla) and Koloningué (Koutiala) in Mali. It is based on the hypothesis that there are action levers that can greatly improve banana production. Field surveys were conducted among banana producers in the two communes to find out the socio-demographic characteristics of producers, the areas under banana production and the constraints to banana production. In Banco and Kolonigué, banana producers are men (95.5%) and women

Single people account for 4.38% and widowers for 0.50%. Illiteracy (65.87%) is the main characteristic of banana producers. Those who have attained basic education are 21.63%, compared to 1.63% of those with secondary education. The size of the farms varies from 0.25 to 10 hectares. Producers with less than one hectare represent 57.75% of those surveyed. The constraints to banana production are: the lack of supervision and training of producers, the low price of local bananas, the informal nature of production, the lack of storage and processing infrastructure, the lack of financial means, the difficulty of selling bananas, the problem of water, etc.
