Carbon dioxide, being the major greenhouse gas, is a significant indicator in the assessment of concrete in terms of sustainability. It accompanies all stages of concrete's life cycle: resource acquisition and processing (especially, cement manufacturing), concrete production and transportation, service and end-of-life scenarios (demolition, recycling, disposal). CO 2 is generally associated with negative consequences concerning either emission generation at production stage or risk of steel

This paper discusses the implication and magnitude of CO 2 as a major aspect of concrete's life cycle. Advantages and disadvantages of this implication are analyzed, good practices are cited and perspectives for further improvements of the various aspects of CO 2 in concrete are outlined.
