Dr. Vahak Marghussian introduced various aspects and applications of modern ceramic science in the early 1980s at the time when the industry and art of traditional ceramics in Iran already had a long history. Later, he was called the father of advanced ceramic science in Iran. Vahak Marghussian was born in Tehran in 1948 and grew up in a family with a Christian religious minority. He went to the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, where he gained his Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy in
more » ... in Metallurgy in 1974. He obtained MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Ceramic Engineering from Manchester University in the UK in 1977 and 1980, respectively. Then, he moved to the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) where he established a new discipline and research line for the next generations. He retired eight years ago, and it was my privilege to be his last Ph.D. student. I would like to briefly share my great respect for him with ceramic and glass scientists worldwide.
