In premature infants, glutathione deficiency impairs the capacity to detoxify the peroxides resulting from O2 metabolism and those contaminating the parenteral nutrition (PN) leading to increased oxidative stress, which is a major contributor to bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) development.
