Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society
Gelfond and Schneider have proved, independently, that in general co a is transcendental where both co and a are algebraic numbers. By simple generalizations of Schneider's proof we obtain results such as the following: if co is transcendental, 0i and 0 2 linearly independent non-rational algebraic numbers, one of co 01 , co 02 is transcendental.
