Bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)platinum has been prepared in 74-82% yield by reduction of dichloro-(1,5-cyclooctadiene)platinum with bis(cyclopentadienyl)cobalt in the presence of excess 1,5-cyclooctadiene.
