Out of 316 cases of patients with primary carcinoma of the colon who underwent surgical operation at Okura National Hospital during the past 14 years, 51 cases (16.1%) were diagnosed as ileus at an initial examination, and 6 cases were camplicated by perforation. In 259 cases of nonobstructive type, initial Symptoms were some hemorrhage or other in the majority (53.7%) of the cases, which was followed by abdominal pain and abnormal evacuation.
