The first platinum(IV) porphyrin, dichloromeso-tetra(p-tolyl)porphinatoplatinum(IV) [Pt(TPP)Cl2**], is prepared by oxidation of the corresponding platinum(II) complex [Pt(TTP)**] with hydrogen peroxide in acidic media and treatment with hydrogen chloride. Pt(TTP)Cl2 is thermally stable up to 200 °C. Electrochemical reduction yields Pt(TTP), presumably by a two-electron step.
