PNEUMOCOCCAL INFECTIONS : REPORT OF A HOSPITAL BASED STUDY

Seventy-one isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae were obtained from various clinicalspecimens of sixty-six patients. Type of pneumococcal infections varied in differentage groups. Major brunt of the invasive pneumococcal infection was borne by infantsand children. Isolates from infected corneal ulcers were relatively resistant toantimicrobials including penicillin, as compared to those isolated from normallysterile body sites.Key Words: Pneumoccoccal infection, antimicrobial susceptibility,
