Possible correlation between the vertical component of lithospheric magnetic field and continental seismicity

Recent magnetic satellite missions facilitate new birth of large-scale geomagnetic field models and their applications to tectonics. Here, we directly compare the global geomagnetic field models NGDC-720 with the tectonics and seismicity in Mainland China and surroundings. It is found that the tectonics and seismicity in this area show remarkable correlation with the vertical component of lithospheric magnetic field (B z ) calculated at an altitude of 200 km.
