Epidemiologic studies en childhood asthma worldwide suggest that its prevalence has increased in a number ofpopulations, In the Philippines, asthma is the fifth leading cause of childhood morbidity, Based en the 1994 data of the Philippine Pediatric Society Registry ofDiseases, it ranked second among the non-infectious diseases warranting hospital admission. A survey done in Metro Manila in 1993 among schoolchildren with ages 6 to 19 years revealed a prevalence rate of 27.4%. Environmental
