ABSTRACT. Occurrence of the Loranthaceae in Caxias, Maranhão state, Brazil. The species belonging to the family Loranthaceae are perennial plants with evergreen leaves. Are distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, comprising about 70 genera and 950 species. The aim of this study was to survey the species of herbs-de-finch family Loranthaceae in the city of Caxias (MA). Samples were collected from May 2007 to September 2008 in the urban and the rural municipality of Caxias, following the techniques to kindle this kind of work. We collected 29 specimens, where the species with the highest representation was Phthirusa pyrifolia, accounting for 31.03% of the species found. This result is due to the fact that this species is of general type, which can parasitize a variety of hosts.
