Edges of an image are considered a type of important information that can be captured by applying detectors with different techniques. This research paper presents a study of the basic concepts of the edge detection operation, theories behind different edge detectors, and some self-written MATLAB edge detection methods with the simulation results. Previous works on edge detection models are reviewed and simulated. The MATLAB results coincide with the first and second order derivative edge detection models.
