Texas racial segregation laws faced a new' test Tuesday when Jack Coffman, a white man from Houston, applied for admission to the Texas University for Ne groes in Houston. Attorney General Price Daniel announced that he had received a request from the Negro Uni versity for a legal opinion on the question of whether a white man can enter a school for Negroes. According to the letter received by the attorney general from H. * Robertson, executive assistant of w the Texas State University for Negroes, Coffman took his place in line with other applicants for admission, but that he didn't act like a bona fide applicant. Coffman says he is a graduate of Penn College, in Oscaloosa, Iowa, and that he is fully quali fied for the courses applied for. Mr. Daniel said that he and his executive assistant, Joe R. Greenh 11 1, would work on the requested opinion.
