Rotors supported on journal bearing are widely used throughout the modern industrial world. Above a certain value of rotor speed, these rotor-bearing systems become unstable due to self-excited vibrations. To ensure stability and guarantee reliable operation, the vibrations of the rotor bearing system has to be controlled. This work focuses on a 2-stage controller tuning methodology for stabilization of rotor supported on a journal bearing.
