As a resource-driven economy, it is important for Canada to encourage environmental protection and sustainability in the mining industry if it is to maintain its status as a global mining leader. In 2015, British Columbia's mining industry was valued at $5.9 billion, approximately 13.8% of the GDP of the province [1]. As such, BC is an integral contributor to Canada's mining industry.
