1. The R package TropFishR is a new analysis toolbox compiling traditional and advanced single-species stock assessment methods for the analysis of small-scale and data-poor fisheries.2. It includes functions for (i) estimating biological stock characteristics such as growth and mortality parameters, (ii) exploring technical aspects of the fisheries (e.g. exploitation rate and selectivity characteristics), (iii) assessing size and composition of a fish stock by means of Virtual population

This paper introduces the package and demonstrate its usage for a traditional stock assessment of a data-poor fish stock using a generated length-frequency (LFQ) data set. The simulation study shows the capability of these methods and identifies potential shortcomings of the traditional LFQ assessment.4. This toolbox modernises traditional stock assessment methods by easing application, development, and combination with advanced statistical approaches.
