Modeling grain orientation of DP600 steel by Nd:YAG laser

A FE-CA (Finite Element-Cellular Automaton) model is built to simulate the microstructure evaluation during laser welding of DP600 high strength steel. A moving conical heat source is performed in ABAQUS to achieve temperature field during welding. A linear interpolation method is used to transfer node temperature of ABAQUS to cell temperature of Cellular Automaton. more » ... d FE-CA model can simulate 2D equiaxed and column dendrite grain growth. The competitive growth between different dendrite arms is presented. The weld microstructure simulation result shows good agreement with experiment results.
