A method of determining the arrangement of viscous dampers for elastoplastic structures is proposed. The technique uses viscous damping factors computed by eigenvalue analysis for mixed hysteretic and viscous damping models to evaluate the seismic performance of buildings, and it is applicable from simply lumped mass models to three-dimensional frame models.
