Salbutamol sulphate (SS) loaded alginate microspheres were prepared by ionotropic gelation method with calcium chloride, barium chloride, aluminium sulphate and magnesium aluminium silicate. A total of 16 formulations were prepared and formulations A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3, D1, D2 and D3 were dried in hot air oven and A4, B4, C4 and D4 dried at room temperature. The particle size of the hot air oven dried microspheres varied between 0.782±0.02 and 0.985±0.03 µm and for air dried
more » ... n 0.99±0.04 and 1.22±0.06µm.The drug content of the hot air oven dried microspheres varied between 77.28±2.8 and 96.18±1.1 mg and for air dried it shows between 82.98±3.2 and 98.34±1.7 mg. The release data were analyzed on the basis of Korsmeyer-Peppas equation and Higuchi kinetics. The release rates k and n of each model were calculated by linear regression analysis. Coefficients of correlation (r 2 ) were used to evaluate the accuracy of the fit. During and at the end of the accelerated stability study, the tested microspheres showed almost similar drug content and drug release as observed at the beginning of the study.
