Hungary at the present stage of development shows that the problem of eliminating defects of democracy is the task of each individual state and EU membership does not guarantee "retreat" on the path of democratization and automatically does not correct the defects of democracy. The conclusion is made that in order to establish democracy, the European Union has a "transforming" effect on countries that are already members or declare their European aspirations, but each country itself must make efforts to overcome the defects of democracy.
