In the present study we investigated whether hypocapnia that accompanies hypoxic hyperventilation might affect the biphasic, stimulatory/depressant, ventilatory response to hypoxia. The experiments were carried out in anesthetized, vagotomized, spontaneously breathing, and poikilocapnic rats.
