ertified nurse-midwives (CNMs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) play a significant role in health care delivery in North Carolina. Within their scopes of practice, these health care professionals provide quality care with high levels of patient satisfaction. 1 Studies in many settings and specialties demonstrate the quality of care provided, 2-7 cost-effectiveness, 8-12 and patient satisfaction.
