I briefly summarize recent observational results that, taken together, imply that star formation and the protogalactic era may be taking place at . I discuss the implications of these results for planned z տ 5 instruments and missions and suggest that modification of the Far-Infrared and Submillimeter Space Telescope (FIRST) and Next Generation Space Telescope (NGST) mission instruments to include longer wavelength capability be considered.
