It is an important goal of nuclear many-bod.v theory to microscopieally describe excitation modes of neutron-rich nuclei within tlte framework of the densitv functional fomnalism. In this case one needs to treat precisely the coupling of the continuum slates to the excitation modes as well as the pair correlations taking place in many. nuclei. The continuum quasi-particle Iinear response theory/the continuum quasi-part・icle randem phase approximation (QRPA) [1,2] has been developed as a

Note however that the eiierg.v functional entering in the QRPA description is so far simplified by keeping only local density terms (called often Landau-Migdal approximation), and consequently the sum rule is violated.
