EXPOSURE DURATION OF PICTURES AND KANSEI EVALUATION

This study examined the effects of exposure duration on kansei evaluation for emotional pictures . Thirty-two university students participated in kansei evaluation experiment . They answered the questionnaire constructing 23 kansei wards at 2 times to presented 8 pictures. Picture presentation was a very short (5 ms) at fist time, while that was a long enough for participants to recognize it at second time. Presented 8 pictures were 4 emotional kinds (positive , negative, neutral and unfamiliar
more » ... neutral) in each living and non-living category. Comparison of rating scores for the short with the long exposure duration indicated significant differences in some conditions. In neutral pictures , particularly unfamiliar neutral picture, ratings for the long exposure time changed opposite direction from short time exposure. In both positive and negative pictures , however, the ratings were promoted by long time exposure. These findings implied that kansei evaluation at least including a primitive emotional process and late cognitive process .
