Chaetognaths Eukrohnia hamata, Sagitta mam, S. gazellae and S. maxima were caught monthly, from December 1986 through March 1987, during 24 h sampling programmes. E. hamata made up 94 % of all chaetognaths by number and 2 to 7 % of zooplankton wet weight. Gut content analyses showed that Euchaeta, spp., Calanoides acutus, Metridia gerlachei, Microcalanus pygmaeus, Oncaea, spp., Oithona, spp. and appendicularians were the main prey of E. hamata. A feeding rate of 0.8
