ABSTRACT This paper seeks, after a brief introduction to the concepts of biotechnology and bioengineering, to give a brief insight into the ethical repercussions of scientific manipulation with plant and animal cells. Ethical judgment of such human activity necessarily leads to ecoethical topics which include questions of disrupting biodiversity as a direct consequence of the dominant scientific paradigm. Consecutive to this, new movements appear within environmental ethics, which, depending on the basic settings, start from anthropocentrism to biocentrism. The philosophical critiques of the scientific and technical human impact on nature and, in contrast, the need for human responsible acting are also going to be emphasized.
