Simpson graduated from Kentucky State College in 1942. He received his M.A. degree from the University of Kentucky in 1956. He was a high school principal for twenty-one years, twelve years of which were spent at the Todd County High School where he was basketball and track coach. He was principal of the Hopkinsville Attucks High School during the 1958-67 period being appointed to his present position with the Jef-ferson County
