A commentary on-Rejuvenation of perioral and lip regions with two Italian dermal fillers: The Italian experience with Vycross TM technology

L ips and the perioral area are of outstanding importance in youthful appearance, attractiveness and beauty. The lips and perioral area are conceived as signs of aging, loss of appealing and fragility. Skin and lip care may help to preserve a youthful and healthy aspect. Rejuvenating the lips with fillers, frequently hyaluronic acid (HA) is a common procedure but requires expertise (1). more » ... al filler suitable for this region that has unique property different from any other area of the face. The Vycross™ Technology and in particular the references Juvederm  Volift™ with lidocaine and Juvederm  Volbella™ with lidocaine for their characteristics appear to be a good solution for this regions. Infact they have particular property of lasting (more than 12 months for Juvederm  Volbella™ with lidocaine and between 12 and 15 months for Juvederm  Volift™ with lidocaine); they cause less swelling thank to the particular and patented combination between long and short chain of hyaluronic acid; they are easy to mouldable and are perfectly integrate with the skin even after 12 months of the injection (2,3). A frequent question during my training courses is if I prefer using needle or cannula in this region. I find that use of the needle is more traumatic compared with the cannula and that lip mucosa swells faster than the perioral skin. But in general I prefer a mixed technique. For first I start with cannula, only one point each on either side at the oral commissure is utilized to reach both the upper and the lower lip. This technique needs getting accustomed to and is difficult for a beginner. After that I shape the lip and the nasolabial fold with the needle. In order to verify the degree of satisfaction of my patients I also collect after 6 months of the treatment a new satisfaction assessment questionnaire (Table 1). Patients were very satisfied of the treatment and wanted to repeat it both in perioral than in the lip region. There were no patients that refuse to repeat the procedure. CONCLUSION In conclusion, Lip augmentation and correction of perioral area with the use of injectable fillers achieve quick results with minimal downtime. Product selection is the result of the physician's experience injecting each dermal filler, as well as his or her personal preferences. Despite Injectable fillers are frequently used to restore volume and correct wrinkles in perioral region. As our understanding of the perioral region advances and procedures available for its treatment increase, we are more able to successfully treat the aged perioral region with minimal risk. Perioral enhancement with HA fillers led to sustained effect in terms of lip fullness, wrinkle, correction of nasolabial fold and 3D volume assessments, and high subject satisfaction. For their caratheristic Juvederm Volift™ with lidocaine and Juvederm Volbella™ with lidocaine are suitable for lip and perioral region according to the severity of the wrinkles and to the lip augmentation that we want to obtain.
