Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) provides a sensitive and reproducible measurement of the coronary artery dimensions, atherosclerotic plaque, and arterial lumen. Advances in IVUS technology now allow for the characterisation of the composition and morphology of atherosclerotic plaques.
