Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the stomach presenting as an exophytic mass - a diagnostic dilemma

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is an uncommon soft tissue neoplasm of uncertain biologic behavior, and rarely reported in the stomach. An eighteen-year-old male presented with a mass in the epigastrium of three-month duration. Clinical and radiological examination suggested a gastrointestinal stromal tumor or a leiomyoma in the lesser curvature of the stomach.
