Three groups were created, the first one strengthened hand grip muscles,
... and grip muscles, the second one followed a program for strengthening rotator cuff muscles with bands and the third one strengthened both the rotator cuff and the hand grip muscles. All of them pursued each schedule for 4 weeks and were reassessed after this time passed. Isokinetic concentric internal and external rotator muscle performance was assessed isokinitically, using Biodex System 3, at the angular velocity of 60°/sin seated position. The range of motion was 10 degrees internal and 60 degrees external rotation. The hand grip was assessed in standing position with the arm flexed at 0, 90 and 180 degrees. Results: The rotator cuff group, before the intervention program, had strong correlation between rotator's cuff maximum concentric torque and maximum hand grip strength had few strong correlations. After that, all correlations positively increased became stronger. The second group followed exercises for both rotators and hand grip. Before the intervention only 1/6 correlations were strong, but after the intervention 3/6 correlation got stronger and the rest 3 got stronger but not enough strong. The Hand-Grip group before the exercise program had 2/6 strong correlations, but after that the correlation became stronger in 4/6 cases. All groups got stronger and especially the external rotators of the HG group. Finally, the Rotator cuff-HG group got stronger as far as internal rotators are concerned in relation to rotator cuff group. Conclusion: It seems that strengthening the rotator cuff, may empower more the HG strength and especially in 180 degrees shoulder flexion. In addition, the rotator cuff-HG group got stronger in relation to rotator cuff group as far as rotators is concerned. Finally, there is a strong not only correlation but also causation between HG and rotators, especially external rotators, but more research is needed for more define conclusions.
