A simple and cost-effective damage inspection method is proposed in this paper for impact induced damage assessment of laminated composite plates. The method is basically based on the formation of very thin silicone films between some adjacent layers and then removing them after impact event took place. In order to put the method into practice, two different groups of plates made of woven fabrics were fabricated first: [0/90]i and [0/90] ig. Afterwards, the [0/90] 5 composite panels were used

The through-thickness damage progress in the specimens has been examined. Some photographs of the specimens damaged are provided in the paper for discussion. The effect of the silicone films on energy absorption capability of composite panels is also discussed.
