This paper covers the reconstruction of three castle towers from the Warring States period, each at the summit of a steep precipice. In Gifu the reconstruction was done by a local historical preservation organization. It is a simple permanent structure built using scrap lumber. In spite of criticism, the foundation was also rebuilt. In Sumoto a modern ferroconcrete structure on pilings for the lower level was built as a rest area and observation platform.
