ABSTRAC~.-Through his imaginative work on the thermal biology of reptiles, Raymond B. Cowles fomented a revolution in thought on the biology of temperature. In this article, I review the development of Raymond Cowles' work on temperature, and show how much of its originality can be attributed to a remarkable theory on the extinction of the dinosaurs.
