We examined the iron status and dietary histories of 12 female cross-country runners at Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, during the 1988 fall season. Our purpose was to assess the influence of intervention in the form of iron supplementation and dietary counseling on hematologic iron status, and on performance in collegiate female athletes.
