Many disorders can cause life-threatening salt wasting crisis in newborns. In these cases, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and shock are predominant in addition to the manifestations of the primary disease. The most dramatic of these syndromes is congenital adrenal hyperplasia while other causes are less common.
