ST6 gas turbine engines in the 600-shp class have been used in many different vehicles ranging from high-speed turbo trains to Indianapolis roadsters. This experience has lead to the development of operating characteristics and design features of the engine which have improved its performance and reliability. In addition much has been learned about how to rate turbine engines and how to predict maintenance and overhaul periods in vehicular operation.
