Eightfold Functionalization of the Octasilsesquioxane Core

Eightfold functionalized octasilsesquioxanes (R8Si8O12) are synthesized using the hydrosilylation method. Different types of groups R, consisting of an (-O-SiMe2(CH2)2) spacer unit and various terminal units (-CH2(C2Me)B10H10, - C5H3MeMn(CO)3, -SiMe2C5H4FeC5H5, -SiMe2Cl, -SiMeCl2, -Si(OEt)3) have been introduced. The hydrosilylation products have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 29Si NMR and infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The redox properties of the ferrocenyl substituted compound
