This study includes the effects of Xylazine hydrochloride on plasma glucose and urea levels, haemoglobin content, erythrocyte counı, haematocrit values and pulse rate in len dogs of 6 to 24 monıhs old. Sativation, vomitus, muscular re/axation were the main symptoms observed within four lo eight minutes af ter the injection of Xy/azine hydrochloride as 1.5 ml per kilogram body weight, intramuscularly. more » ... ere recorded. The average onset of sedation appeared in 5.8 minutes af ter the apptication, and reached Us peak in 12.8 minutes. The approximate duration were found to be 47 minutes. Subsidence of sedationfinished at the 1. 5th hoıır, on the average. An inerease in plasma glucose and urea in 15 minutes af ter injection of Xylazine hydrochloride and a decrease in heamatocrit values, haemog-/obin content, erythrocyte count and pulse rate in the first hour of trial were estimated. The increase in plasma glucose and urea continued approximately eight hours. Af ter that they began to decrease and fel! to the [evel determined before the injection, about 28th hours of the trial. The. decremel1ts in haemoglobin col/tent, haematocrit value, erthrocyte count and pulse rate stopped in seventıı, nineth, fi/tlı and first hour af ter injection of Xylazine hydroch/oride, respectively.
