Phase engineering of one-dimensional photonic crystal with defects for microwave applications

It will be shown in this paper that new sensitive phase based one-dimensional photonic crystal devices can be developed if existing problems can somehow be overcome. From such perspective, the major problems associated can be states ad rapid change of light intensity around the defect mode in one-dimensional systems and the effect of the substrate. Some of the techniques which are used to overcome such problems is to construct a defective one-dimensional photonic crystal in a heterostructure or

Now considering this, we can see that the phase of asymmetric one-dimensional photonic crystals along with couple defects are shown in this paper. As a immediate extension of this, a phase modulator as well as a phase switch with very high sensitivity are demonstrated.
