The electrolytic oxidation of potassium ferrocyanide to potassium ferricyanide has been investigated by several men, including Hayek,l Brochet and Petit,2 and G r~b e .~ The results obtained by these men, as reported in the literature] seem to be somewhat at variance. All of them used a cell with a diaphragm, the oxidation being effected in the anode chamber. In each case the electrolyte in the anode chamber was agitated with a mechanical stirrer. Brochet and Petit state that the oxidation of
more » ... the oxidation of potassium ferrocyanide to potassium ferricyanide takes place according t o the following reaction: S K~F~( C N )~ + Fe(CN)P' = 4K3Fe(CN)G. Near the end, when the solution is poor in ferrocyanide, oxygen is evolved. To account for this reaction, Brochet and Petit give the equation Fe(CN)GIV + 2 H 2 0 = HdFe(CN)e + 0 2 .
